Blue Origin targets June 4 for next space tourist mission after delay | Space

NS-21, the next mission of Blue Origin's New Shepard suborbital vehicle, is now targeted for Saturday (June 4), company representatives announced today (May 31). NS-21 is scheduled to launch from Blue Origin's West Texas site on Saturday during a window that opens at 9 a.m.

NS-21 was originally supposed to launch on May 20, but Blue Origin delayed things after discovering a potential issue with one of New Shepard's backup systems. The company has not disclosed what exactly that issue was.

NASA's SOFIA flying telescope spots eclipse of odd binary star | Space

NASA's flying telescope SOFIA has been watching a dance between two stars orbiting each other as they approach the moment of eclipse, allowing astronomers to study how the two exchange stardust. 

Astronomers believe that the smaller of the two stars is a white dwarf , a dim, cooling remnant of a star that has run out of fuel.

Spectacular Hubble image captures 'grand spiral' galaxy | Space

It's a galactic image from the telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 and Advanced Camera for Surveys, focusing on NGC 3631. The spiral arms of the "Grand Design Spiral", as this object is nicknamed, are absolutely brimming with starbirth.

The color blue represents visible wavelengths of blue, and orange is showcasing infrared or heat-rich areas that are otherwise difficult to see due to dust in the way.

15 years ago, 1,000 space experts sketched out humanity's future on the Moon

Humanity has been preoccupied with the night sky and our place in the cosmos since the dawn of our species. The vastness of space transcends the arbitrary borderlines we draw here on Earth, offering a never-ending frontier.

FAA delays environmental review of SpaceX's Starship 2 more weeks, to June 13 | Space

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed the completion of its environmental review of SpaceX's Starship program by another two weeks, to June 13.

That review, known as a programmatic environmental assessment (PEA), is gauging the environmental impacts of SpaceX's Starbase site in South Texas, where the company builds and tests its giant Starship vehicle.
