A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket carrying an advanced new weather satellite for the United States is rolling out to its launch pad today and you can watch a video replay from its morning trip. 

The Atlas V rocket is carrying the GOES-T weather satellite for NASA and NOAA to its pad at Space Launch Complex 41 of Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station for a planned launch on Tuesday (March 1). Liftoff is set for 4:38 p.m. EST (2138 GMT).

China's new-generation rocket launches 22 satellites into space - SCIENCE News

China's new Long March-8 rocket placed 22 satellites in space on Sunday, setting a domestic record for the most spacecraft launched by a single rocket.

The rocket blasted off at 11:06 a.m. (Beijing Time) at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern Hainan Province before sending the satellites into pre-set orbits, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Scientists have shown how the swirling winds and searing heat on Venus work together in a revealing new study.

The surface of Venus is hot enough to melt lead with temperatures averaging 872 degrees Fahrenheit (467 degrees Celsius). This extreme heat is maintained by a thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide that traps the heat on the planet in a greenhouse effect .

Laser-Powered Sails Would be Great for Exploring the Solar System too - Universe Today

In particular, missions planners and engineers are investigating Directed Energy (DE) propulsion, where laser arrays are used to accelerate light sails to relativistic speeds (a fraction of the speed of light).

The first detector to be calibrated is the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam), which can detect wavelengths just outside of the visible spectrum and offers a clearer image than cameras that only detect visible light.

The remaining detectors will collect the light that passes through the NIRCam and record the wavelengths for image outputting. Once all detectors are fully functional, NASA operators will test the 17 observation modes on reference objects with known brightness and position.
