India's Gaganyaan Space Mission Takes Off
Meet the Astronauts
India has announced its first set of astronauts for the Gaganyaan space mission, which aims to send an uncrewed spacecraft to the lunar orbit and back. The selected astronauts are a mix of experienced pilots and engineers, who have undergone rigorous training to prepare for this historic mission.
The three astronauts are:
1. Wing Commander Dr. S. Somanath - A veteran pilot with over 20 years of experience in the Indian Air Force, Dr. Somanath is the mission commander for Gaganyaan. He has also served as a test pilot and has been involved in the development of several aircraft and spacecraft systems.
2. Colonel R. Hari Kumar - Colonel Kumar is a veteran test pilot with over 15 years of experience in the Indian Air Force.
He has flown several aircraft, including the Sukhoi-30MKI and the Mirage 2000, and has been involved in the development of India's space program.
