Ransomware hackers hit Australian defence communications platform | Reuters

SYDNEY, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Hackers have targeted a communications platform used by Australian military personnel and defence staff with a ransomware attack, authorities said on Monday, as the country battles a recent spike in cyberattacks across businesses.

The ForceNet service, one of the external providers that the defence department contracts to run one of its websites, has come under attack but so far no data have been compromised, Assistant Minister For Defence Matt Thistlethwaite said.

Hackers lock Randy's Rescue Ranch out of social media accounts | ksdk.com

O'FALLON, Ill. — A nonprofit animal rescue in O'Fallon, Illinois, is struggling to gather donations after loosing control of its social media accounts.

According to a tweet from Randy's Rescue Ranch , hackers attacked Facebook profiles of the nonprofit and its owner Randy Grim on Oct. 4 and blocked Grim and administrators from accessing them.

Elon Musk's Twitter could become a haven for hackers

This is not the first time that ransomware gangs have used Twitter to advertise valuable stolen data. In August, two groups, Karakurt and BlackByte created Twitter profiles for themselves in order to publicise their illicit merchandise.

Twitter is currently experiencing a period of upheaval following its acquisition by Elon Musk for $44bn. Tesla CEO Musk renamed himself as Twitter’s “Chief Twit” after completing the takeover on Friday, which followed months of legal back and forth.

According to a report from Atlas VPN , blockchain hackers have stolen $2.5 billion in three quarters of 2022. The data collected is based on numbers provided by Slowmist Hacked .

Blockchain hacks overall show a 43% fall in the last quarter compared to Q2 however hacks are still happening and – as ever – huge amounts of money are the target. In Q3 2022 the report states that hackers got away with almost $483 million, which is no small amount.
