Star Trek: Voyager's Tim Russ helped NASA detect Patroclus, an asteroid orbiting Jupiter

AUGUST 30, 2021 - Star Trek actor Tim Russ is no longer a crewmember on the U.S.S. Voyager, but he still has his eyes on the skies.

Russ and five other citizen astronomers were recently credited with aiding NASA in the detection of Patroclus, one of the Trojan asteroids orbiting the planet Jupiter.

Alien 'Dyson spheres' could be harvesting the power of black holes | Space

Technologically-savvy aliens could be powering their society using a hypothetical megastructure called a Dyson sphere to harvest energy from a black hole .

During a coffee break, astronomer Tiger Yu-Yang Hsiao of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and his colleagues read a paper about Dyson spheres and began wondering if it were possible to build one around a black hole instead of a star.

Right above you is the sky – or as scientists would call it, the atmosphere. It extends about 20 miles (32 km) above the Earth . Floating around the atmosphere is a mixture of molecules – tiny bits of air so small you take in billions of them every time you breathe.

Above the atmosphere is space. It's called that because it has far fewer molecules, with lots of empty space between them.

SpaceX launches Dragon cargo capsule to space station, nails rocket landing at sea | Space

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — SpaceX launched its 21st rocket of the year today (Aug 29), sending a robotic Dragon cargo capsule toward the International Space Station (ISS) before nailing a landing at sea.

A two-stage Falcon 9 rocket blasted off from Launch Complex 39A here at NASA's Kennedy Space Center at 3:14 a.m. EDT (0714 GMT), kicking off the company's 23rd cargo resupply mission to the orbiting lab for NASA.

China's Mars rover to pause for about 50 days due to communication disruption: Official - The

China's Tianwen-1 Mars mission will be inactivated for about 50 days from mid-September due to an expected disruption of its communication with Earth caused by the solar electromagnetic radiation, the mission's chief designer has said.

Tianwen-1, consisting of an orbiter, a lander and a rover, was launched on July 23, 2020. It was the first step in China's planetary exploration of the solar system, with the aim of completing orbiting, landing and roving on the red planet in one mission.

Hurricane Ida Photos Taken From ISS Show Storm Swirling Above Gulf of Mexico

Hurricane Ida was spotted swirling above the Gulf of Mexico by astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS).

Photos published online by NASA show the huge storm as seen from space on August 28. In one of the images the ISS appears to be positioned almost directly over the storm's eye, providing a bird's-eye view down through its center.
